Fantasy Novel, and Tips for Works in Progress

In this episode 334, Jacy Sellers and Nicole D’Arcangelo join us to talk about how they co-authored their fantasy novel A Feather’s Force, which asks what if your bedtime fantasy story turned out to be your family history? Plus fantasy author P.J. Alexander interrogates the notion of the work in progress.

From P.J. Alexander’s blog post “Work in Progress,” we take the following tips:

  • A piece of art is never finished, merely abandoned. There’s always more work you can do, but at some point you have to release your art into the world.
  • There’s no such thing as a bad book. Every book has the potential to be great.
  • Like their books, authors are also works in progress, and can improve over the course of a career.
  • In writing, there are no rules, only tools–or rules you can learn to use as tools.
