In this episode 160, we visit with novelist Joy Callaway, author of “The Fifth Avenue Artists Society” and “Secret Sisters,” both published by Harper.

Joy starts the show with a reading from her most recent novel, “Secret Sisters,” where two of the main characters are plotting the idea of forming a women’s fraternity at their co-ed college in 1881, a time when such ideas are foreign to such male-dominated institutions of the day.

About the Author:
Joy Callaway is the author of two novels, The Fifth Avenue Artists Society (Harper 2016) and Secret Sisters (Harper 2017). Formerly a marketing director for a wealth management company, she now operates as a full-time mom and writer.
Her love of storytelling is a direct result of her parents’ insistence that she read books or write stories instead of watching TV. Her interest in family history was fostered by her relatives’ habit of recounting tales of ancestors’ lives.
Joy holds a B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations from Marshall University and an M.M.C. in Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina. She resides in Charlotte with her husband, John, and her children, Alevia and John.
