Tracie Barton-Barrett’s Novel About Families and Their Pets is “Buried Deep in Our Hearts”
Podcast: Download (Duration: 28:32 — 26.3MB)
In this episode 115, we visit with Tracie Barton-Barrett, author of “Buried Deep in Our Hearts,” her debut novel.
The novel follows three families and their lives together with their furry family members. When a cherished animal dies, they lead their community in coming together to support and honor their beloved.
Inspired by the animals who have touched her life, Tracie hopes her uplifting novel will allow the reader to relate, reflect, and reminisce. Tracie, and her husband, Daniel, are owned by two cats, Rutherford B. Barrett, (aka. Bubby) and Oliver Monkey. The kitties run the household; Tracie and Daniel just pay the mortgage.

About the Author
Since she was in utero, Tracie Barton-Barrett has been a life-long devotee to animals. This love has spanned from her first job working in a veterinarian’s office, to pet-sitting, to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor with a specialty in pet loss. Tracie has also facilitated or co-facilitated pet loss support groups, including at North Carolina State University Veterinary Hospital, and at a local Raleigh animal hospital. In addition, she has created presentations and written articles on the human-bond, including pet loss and co-facilitated compassion fatigue workshops for animal shelter staff, rescuers, and veterinarians. And, yes, she will always want to see pics of your animals.
As a speaker and former psychology instructor, she was the recipient of The Excellence in Teaching Award from National Society of Leadership & Success. Tracie is also an active member of Wonderland Book Club in Raleigh, a local meeting of North Carolina Writing Network and supports her fellow authors in various ways, including as a beta reader. Tracie created a YouTube series entitled “Psychology Snippets,” which discusses Psychology topics in small, bite-sized videos. She loves traveling with her husband and creating videos for their YouTube channel, Travel Odysseys.
Tracie is working on her second novel, FINDING HER SPIRIT, a coming-of-age novel about a horse-loving girl and the numerous ways horses touch her life, despite the fact she can’t have one. When not writing, she loves geeking out on psychology, horseback riding, singing, playing the piano, being near or on the water, movies, and quoting “Golden Girls” and “Friends” episodes.
