Poet Donna Love Wallace Navigates Her Experience with Breast Cancer in “Between the Stones”

In this episode 107, we visit with Donna Love Wallace, author of her debut poetry chapbook, “Between the Stones.”

About the Author

Donna Love Wallace of Lewisville, North Carolina, received a 2019 Wildacres Artist Residency to complete her first book of poetry titled Between the Stones, about her personal experience with breast cancer (Hermit Feathers Press, 2019). Flying South 2019 awarded her poem “Finishing Touch,” Best-in-category, and “Cool to the Touch” received an honorable mention from the NC Poetry Society’s Thomas McDill Award.

Donna is past-president of Winston Salem Writers and former director of Poetry in Plain Sight, a statewide initiative to place poetry in public spaces. She is a member of NC Poetry Society, NC Writers’ Network and Winston Salem Writers.

Writing poetry since 2009, her work appears in Snapdragon, Hermit Feathers Review, Flying South, Pinesong, Kakalak, The Paddock Review, Medical Literary Messenger, among others. She was a featured speaker at the 2019 Pink Ribbon Talks, sponsored by Cancer Services of Winston Salem, where she shared selections from Between the Stones. Donna is a retired critical care nurse, seminarian and educator.

Donna draws inspiration from her personal experiences, family life and outdoor pursuits. She enjoys hiking and backpacking, cycling and getting together with writing buddies. You’ll often find her in a coffee shop or bookstore, downtown watering holes, literary readings, greenways or her back porch — her favorite place to write.
