Donna Everhart’s “Moonshiner’s Daughter” Is Full of Colorful Characters and Twists and Turns

In this episode 83, we meet Donna Everhart, USA Today bestselling author, whose fourth and most recent novel is “The Moonshiner’s Daughter.”

The starred review in Publisher’s Weekly says that “Everhart’s story of self-discovery, rife with colorful characters and a satisfying twist, will thrill readers.”

Recognized as a Southern Literary Review January Book of the Month, The Moonshiner’s Daughter evokes the singular life of sixteen-year-old Jessie Sasser, a young woman in 1960s North Carolina determined to escape her family’s past. Generations of Sassers have made moonshine in the Brushy Mountains of Wilkes County, North Carolina. Their history is recorded in a leather-bound journal that belongs to Jessie Sasser’s daddy, but Jessie wants no part of it. As far as she’s concerned, moonshine caused her mother’s death a dozen years ago.

About the Author

Donna Everhart is the USA Today bestselling author of The Road to Bittersweet, winner of the Southeastern Library Association Outstanding Authors Award, The Education of Dixie Dupree, which was a 2016 IndieNext List selection, The Forgiving Kind and The Moonshiner’s Daughter. She grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina and has lived close to her hometown for most of her life. She now lives in Dunn, North Carolina with her husband, and a tiny, heart stealing Yorkshire terrier.

Donna Everhart is an early riser who loves coffee, animals, and stalking herself on social media – which is to say, she spends too much time on the internet when she should be writing. Ever an optimist, she sees her glass as half full – hopefully with wine or beer.
