What’s Coming in September 2022

Episode 306

In episode 306 releasing on September 13th, we share more book recommendations and another Charlotte Lit 2 minute tip, and we feature four authors where we focus on writing poetry, writers and procrastination, two true crime novels and a Smoky Mountain family saga.

We feature Benjamin Gilmer and his book, “The Other Dr. Gilmer: Two men, A Murder, and an Unlikely Fight for Justice,” a true crime book about what Dr. Benjamin Gilmer found out when he went to work at a rural clinic about the previous doctor at the clinic who shared his last name, a doctor who seemed beloved and respected until he strangled his ailing father, what one New York Times bestselling author called “a remarkable true-life medical detective story.”

We feature Avery Caswell and her novel, “Salvation,” based on the true story of two young sisters who were kidnapped by a traveling evangelist outside Charlotte, North Carolina, what one award-winning author called a “harrowing novel about delusion and determination, faith and grit, good and evil….a stunning debut by an important talent.”

We feature Sheila Myers and her novel, “The Truth of Who You Are,” a story inspired by actual events and the people who once lived in the Smoky Mountains before it became a National Park, where people use stories to hide uncomfortable truths to protect their home and family, what one author calls “a sweeping family saga full of love, heartbreak, hard times, and the sustaining power of family.”

In our writing discussion, we feature 2022 Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for the North Carolina Poetry Society, Kenneth Chamlee, with his Community Blog post titled: “Squeezing the Excess Out of a Poem.”

We also have a discussion about writer procrastination, using Landis’s recent Wadescripts blog post as a starting point, entitled: “Procrastination: A Novelist’s Friend or Foe,” and share listeners’ ideas for how they procrastinate.

Episode 307

In episode 307 releasing on September 27th, we share more book recommendations and another Charlotte Lit 2 minute tip, and we feature five authors where we focus on writing tips and writing process, plus a thriller novel, a one hour adventure read, and a memoir.

We feature New York Times bestselling novelist Therese Anne Fowler and her novel, “It All Comes Down to This,” where Therese invites the reader into the world of the strong-minded Geller sisters, the men they can’t live with or without, the Maine summer house that holds the key to their happiness, and the secrets that will change everything, what another bestselling author calls “a big-hearted novel about middle-aged women reckoning with their own heavy secrets, and each other.”

We feature Bobby Nash, an award-winning author who writes novels, comic books, short stories, screenplays, and more. Bobby is a member of the International Association of Media Tie-in Writers and International Thriller Writers. On occasion, he appears in movies and TV shows, usually standing behind your favorite actor. Occasionally, he puts pen to paper and doodles. We will talk with him about the one hour read, and in particular, his one hour read, titled: The Lost Adventures of Captain Hawklin: Smugglers Run.

We feature author Joel Shulkin, where we hear and break down his Community Blog post on what it means to write what you know, and also author, Lee Zacharias, where we hear and dive into her blog post titled, Mountain Climbing and Alligator Wrestling, which is what authors do, apparently.

And finally, last but not least, we feature Ruth Little and her memoir, “Book of Ruth,” where Ruth narrates fifty years of adventures, from preservation activist in the 1970s to consultant, author and artist in the 2010s, what one reviewer calls “Rigorous, observant, colorful, and brave”
