Peter Guzzardi and “Emeralds of Oz: Life Lessons from Over the Rainbow”

In this episode 88, author Peter Guzzardi takes us down a Yellow Brick Road of his own, with his debut work of inspiration, “Emeralds of Oz: Life Lessons from Over the Rainbow” (Harper Collins, 2019).

In addition to the many insights Peter draws from “The Wizard of Oz,” he finds nine Emeralds, which he believes have great value and power for guiding one through life’s obstacles.

Carol Burnett says that she “loved the book as much as the movie,” because it “opens your eyes and heart to a new way of being in the world.”

We start the show with Peter reading from early in the book, where he answers the question: “Why ‘The Wizard of Oz?’” And before we’re through today, you’ll be reminded why there’s no place like home.

About the Author:

Emeralds of Oz: Life Lessons from Over the Rainbow (Harper Collins, 2019) is Peter Guzzardi’s debut as an author, but not his first experience with books.

Peter worked in publishing for more than forty years, editing such prominent books as Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time, Deepak Chopra’s Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, Queen Noor’s Leap of Faith, Arianna Huffington’s Fanatics and Fools, and Paula Poundstone’s, There’s Nothing in This Book That I Meant to Say. He also worked with Carol Burnett on two memoirs.

Trained in the art of identifying the lessons that lie at the heart of books and films, Peter devoted two years to exploring The Wizard of Oz and found lessons to live by. The place he’s called home for more than 20-plus years is Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
