J.A. Walsh’s Debut Thriller, “Purpose of Evasion,” Takes Its Title From the CIA Oath

In this episode 76, we visit with author J.A. “Joe” Walsh, whose debut novel, “Purpose of Evasion,” takes its title from the CIA oath.

Joe brings his practical experience as an Army Intelligence officer and his work in counter-terrorism to create his first in the Sami Lakhani Thriller Series, where Sami, a new kind of spy hero, is faced with a ticking clock to prevent the next hotel explosion in a series of explosions on U.S. soil planned by enemies, both foreign and domestic.

We start the show with Joe reading from the prologue of the book where we meet a highly placed government employee who has the ear of the President and who is planning something under the table, without oversight and particularly illegal.

About the Author:

Author J.A. “Joe” Walsh worked in intelligence and counter-terrorism after the 9/11 attacks, and has degrees in Russian, English literature, and Environmental Law. Purpose of Evasion is his debut novel and the first book in the Sami Lakhani Thriller Series and draws on the author’s own service in counter-terrorism, and as he says, is inspired by some of the great writers and heroes of the spy and political thriller genres, including Alex Berenson’s John Wells, and Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon, as well as the novels of Stephen L. Carter, Michael Crichton and John Grisham.

Charlotte’s Queen City Nerve calls Purpose of Evasion “a chillingly plausible storyline charting a white supremacist’s plot to infiltrate our government” and says it “promises to be a thrilling adventure that may also serve as a thought provoking wake-up call to readers.”

Joe lives in Davidson, North Carolina with his family.
