Gavin Edwards Reveals Real-Life Stories of Celebrities in “The World According to Tom Hanks” and “The Tao of Bill Murray”

In today’s episode number 32, we meet New York Times best-selling author Gavin Edwards and we focus on his two books that explore the celebrity lives and careers of Tom Hanks and Bill Murray.

It’s true that Tom Hanks is a nice guy but as Gavin notes, Hanks sees that summation as boring and Hanks’ life and career have the complexity and richness to prove it. He’s also beloved as a star of the big screen.

If Hanks is the nice guy, Bill Murray is the guy everyone loves to have crash their party, but he has a dark side, too. He’s everywhere, he’s random, he often is not on time for work and even his lawyers and agents have trouble reaching him. He’s a Ghostbuster. Who you gonna call? Right?

We start with a section from The World According to Tom Hanks, entitled The Ten Commandments of Tom Hanks. We spend half the show in Tom’s world and the other half in Bill’s.

Gavin Edwards is the New York Times-bestselling author of ten books (including The Tao of Bill Murray and The World According to Tom Hanks) and the editor of The Beautiful Book of Exquisite Corpses.

Edwards published his first book of misheard lyrics in 1995. Titled ‘Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy, it was published by Touchstone Books and he’s written about many celebrities.

In the name of journalism, he entered a demolition derby, played skee-ball with Kristen Bell, and participated in the world’s largest tomato fight.

A longtime contributor to Rolling Stone,he has written for Details, Billboard, and TheNew York Times. He lives in Charlotte, NC, with his wife and their two children.
