Dori Ann Dupré Tells A Heartwarming Tale of Love and Found Family in “Good Buddy”

In this episode 179, we visit with Dori Ann Dupré, author of Good Buddy, a tender tale of love and family that asks the question, “What really makes a father?”

Good Buddy is a 2019 Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Winner. It is a story about families, secrets, loss, life, and the special bonds that we have with our fathers, stepfathers, and surrogate fathers. This story was written for and in eternal memory of Dori’s husband who was, himself, a “good buddy.”

Scott Thomson, author of Eight Days says, “This is a touching story about love and what makes a real family. It’s a story about doing the right thing, healing, and second chances. It’s a story about life.”

Further Endorsements

“Dori Ann Dupré introduces readers to characters that are real — they are genuinely flawed and their vulnerability quickly becomes a channel through which a strong bond is built. Both Julie and Jonathan have suffered losses in their childhoods and both of them bear the scars of the past with them. It is interesting how the relationships between the characters develop in the narrative and how well the author explores the hearts of the characters. Dori Ann Dupré keeps the writing strong, deepens the characters and keeps them real, and infuses the narrative with humanism. The story has powerful plot points, is emotionally engaging, and hides surprises that readers will want to discover.”

-2019 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards Honorable Mention in Southern Fiction and 5 STAR REVIEW

Scout’s Honor thoroughly engages us from the moment we first meet the engaging Scout Webb, a sort of female Holden Caulfield whose lifelong struggles with love make a compelling read and teach us much. First-time novelist Dori Ann Dupré does a terrific job telling her story through an array of interesting characters while demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a true gift for exploring the joys, heartbreaks, complexities and deep truths of human relationships. Scout’s Honor will capture your heart.”

-Mark Ethridge, author of Grievances and Fallout, screen writer for Deadline (the movie adaptation of Grievances) and two-time Pulitzer Prize for Public Service recipient as managing editor with the Charlotte Observer.
